The Alpinestars Tempest V3 Wet Weather Kart Gloves, SKU 355-0626, are FIA 8877-2022 certified gloves built specifically for wet karting conditions. They are not intended as dry-weather race gloves, and the construction prioritises waterproofing and thermal retention over the thin, maximally sensitive construction of a dry karting glove. At £86, they address the specific problem of maintaining control and grip on a wet steering wheel when temperatures are low.
A three-layer waterproof construction separates the hand from external water while allowing moisture from perspiration to escape outward. A windproof outer shell provides the first barrier. An inner fleece lining traps warm air against the hand, maintaining dexterity in low ambient temperatures where bare or lightly insulated gloves allow the hand to cool to a point where grip strength and fine control degrade. A high-grip palm compound is used rather than the silicone printing of dry racing gloves, as the high-grip compound maintains contact against a wet leather rim where silicone can become slippery under sustained water loading.
The Tempest V3 carries the current FIA 8877-2022 approval, which means it satisfies the homologation requirement for certified karting events even in wet conditions where substituting an uncertified waterproof glove would violate regulations.
